CANCELLED/POSTPONSED PUBLIC EVENTS BELOW

ATTENDEES to the Sanctuary Cove Food & Wine Festival will have to wait another year to sample an array of local treats after event organisers pulled the pin in the wake of new Covid restrictions that came into force on Tuesday.

The showcasing, due to take place from July 17 to 25, typically draws thousands to Gold Coast’s northern end each year with its stellar line-up of homegrown suppliers including Ioesco Cafe Cucina.

Sadly, it is just one of many large-scale events across the Coast to be thrust into chaos due to the changes over the next fortnight imposed by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. Sports have also been impacted.

Food & Wine Festival organisers say the decision to cancel the nine-day event is the “most sensible course of action,” as southeast Queensland prepares to enter a three-day lockdown.

“This decision has not been made lightly and we want to thank you for your support and understanding during these uncertain times,” a spokeswoman said.

“The health and safety of the Sanctuary Cove community and event attendees continues to be our highest priority.”

All ticket holders will be contacted to receive a full refund.

SHOPS STRIPPED: How Coast reacted to lockdown

Global superstar Alan Cumming has also been forced to postpone the Gold Coast leg of his national tour that was due to take place at HOTA on Sunday.

Mr Cumming spoke of his disappointment in a statement released early Tuesday morning.

NSW records 19 new cases of community transmission

“I’m so sorry that Ms Rona is playing havoc with my tour but if the Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne audiences are disappointed, please know that no one is more upset than me,” he said.

“I will come back and make it up to you once Australia is vaxxed up and open for business. I am Cumming back.”

Musical acts Thelma Plum and Spacey Jane have postponed their respective gigs at Tweed Heads and Miami Marketta.

Two performances of MAMMA MIA! The Musical at The Star Casino have also been rescheduled.

Ticketholders who purchased tickets to performances on July 1-2 will be automatically transferred to new show dates on July 6 and July 7.

If the new dates are not convenient, ticketholders can select another performance date or receive a full refund, should they not be able to attend any other show date.

The latest cancellations have since prompted many to question the fate of other highly anticipated events due to take place over the coming weeks.

Sadly, the fate of the Gold Coast Marathon has been made clear with the event cancelled just three days before it was set to run.

Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate had said he hoped the marathon can still be held without cancellation or major changes but conceded he would be guided by health authorities.

“That is another hard one. When you run a marathon you can’t put a mask on,” Tate said.

“I will be guided by the health authority. If it is reduced in numbers or whatever covid plan they have, I support as close to normality as possible.

“I have got to be guided by the medical officer.”

Meanwhile, 48 schools from across Queensland taking part in senior school rugby league competition in Brisbane face a race against the clock to return home before lockdown commences at 6pm Tuesday evening.

It is understood the Gold Coast Suns have travelled south to Melbourne ahead of Saturday’s clash against Richmond Tigers that was originally set to take place at Metricon Stadium.

AFL officials are expected to make an announcement in coming hours.

Gold Coast Titans have reportedly gone back into a bubble but will still be free to play the Canberra Raiders in the country’s capital on Saturday.

The team will likely to fly in on the day of the game and straight back out.

Titans are scheduled to have a bye the week after, meaning they won’t play a Sydney team for at least a fortnight.

Gold Coast Bulletin will update the list of impacted events as further information comes to light.
