A new Asian-fusion restaurant has been welcomed into a southern Gold Coast neighbourhood and locals say they are “blown away” by the food.
Pokkoi Kitchen opened in Coolangatta on January 15, making it one of the newest restaurants in the growing suburb.
Owner and chef Cameron Knox said he had been working on Pokkoi Kitchen for a year and jumped to secure the beachfront location six months ago.
Mr Knox said he was inspired to open the Asian-fusion restaurant by his travels overseas.
“After dining at several restaurants on the Gold Coast and Brisbane area, it was realised that there was an unexplored avenue in the restaurant business for amazing affordable food, packed with flavour,” he said.
Items on the menu include popcorn cauliflower for $19, prawn dumplings for $22, crispy fish dry red curry for $44 and crispy half duck for $44.
However, the Hiramasa kingfish, which is priced at $27, was said to be the most popular dish on the menu.
“(It) is served with a beautiful mix of nam jim, citrus and turmeric coconut. Providing a diverse range of flavour and a delicate textural balance,” Mr Knox said.
He said he fell in love with Coolangatta’s “stunning beachfront paradise” after moving from New Zealand.
“Through combination of breathtaking views, friendly locals and a small town coastal atmosphere, there was no discussion required when selecting a new place to call home.”
Local Tom Kowalczuk said he was “totally blown away by the food” at the new hotspot.
“Highly recommend checking this place out,” he said.
