Groundwater Country Music Festivals’ headlining act says the Gold Coast event is now classed as one of the “big five” on the calendar, matching CMC Rocks and Gympie Music Muster.

Gold Coast’s own country music star, and six time ARIA award winner Adam Brand was recently announced as the headliner for this year’s Groundwater Country Music Festival in October.

Brand will share the stage with Australian favourite Kasey Chambers, American artist Jim Lauderdale and Canada’s Tim Ticks from October 18-20 in Broadbeach.

Brand said the free festival was “everything you could possibly want” in an event.

“I feel like Groundwater is being spoken about in the same conversations of the big five, Gympie Music Muster, the Deni Ute Muster, CMC Rocks and Tamworth Country Music Festival,” he said.

“It’s become one of those shining stars of the country music festival scene.”

Brand said its community-based atmosphere and location was what gave it the “wow” factor.

“It takes a country music festival 10 to 20 years just to get a foot hold, whereas Groundwater quickly rose above and became an event that all the artists talk about and want to play.”

Brand said he had attended the festival every year, even when he wasn’t playing.

“I love walking around and hearing the names that aren't big names yet but are going to be soon,” he said.

“I certainly feel that is has really fostered the younger country artists scene on the Gold Coast.”

Brand said he was looking forward to watching his long-time industry friend, Chambers take the stage.

“Kasey and I started our careers at the same time and for us to still be doing festivals together is a blessing,” he said.

Brand said while he had made the decision to stop touring for long periods of time, he was planning to release a single towards the end of the year called ‘A Few Good Years Left Yet’.

“There’s a little life left in this old boy yet,” he said.

“I’m still loving the creative process of being an artist, I’m just not enjoying being on the road for long stretches of time.

“I’m in a good space and enjoying being a part of this festival.”
