A strong opening quarter proved to be the difference between South Barwon and Geelong West, with the Swans winning 59-54.

South Barwon started well, taking a 17-7 lead at the first break, before the Giants slowly edged their way back into the contest.

But 40 goals to Swan Ellen Doyle, as well as 14 to Olivia Cameron and five to Matilda Puckett was enough to hold off any comeback, running out five-goal victors.

Geelong West coach Jill Leader said her group showed great fight after trailing early.

“We got jumped at the start, their combination in goals started so well, so it was amazing to come back,” she said.

“It was a very exciting game at the end, we had a chance late with the lead but we missed some passes and South Barwon played well.

“Their passing was really good, it was the sort of game I wished we had a time out.”

Colac v Lara

64 goals to shooter Michelle Winch helped Colac to a 87-26 win against Lara.

The Tigers piled on at least 19 goals each quarter to improve their record to 8-2 after 11 rounds, while Lara remains on just one win for the season.

Leopold v Bell Park

Bell Park’s finals quest was helped with a 45-26 win against Leopold.

Makaela Connelly scored 29 goals for the Dragons in the win, with the side moving to seventh on the ladder and just two points behind South Barwon in fourth.

Newtown & Chilwell v St Mary’s

An early challenge from the Saints was not enough to overcome Newtown & Chilwell, with the Eagles pouring on 36 goals to 25 in the second half to run out 72-49 winners.

Uneeq Palavi scored 30 goals for the Eagles while Grace Parker had 40 for St Mary’s.

St Albans v St Joseph’s

St Albans’ 67-48 win against St Joseph’s will have major ramifications for the rest of the league, with the Supersaints solidifying their spot in the top five.

Joeys will be eight points behind St Albans, with no certainties of finals after the loss.

Tharjini Sivalingam scored 53 goals for St Albans, while Emma Buwalda had 24 for St Joseph’s.
