A Norlane man has allegedly been caught searching for cigarettes naked on a neighbour’s doorstep and terrorising another neighbour with a large kitchen knife.

Spencer Holt, 35, appeared before Geelong Magistrates Court via video link from custody on Wednesday.

Holt is accused of theft and a string of bizarre neighbourhood interactions.

On September 7 last year, Holt allegedly went to the door of a neighbour’s home and stole a $10 ashtray.

When quizzed about the ashtray theft by police Holt told police he went to steal cigarette butts and had since thrown out the ashtray.

Holt’s next run-in with his neighbours happened on December 21.

The court heard the neighbour walked past Holt’s home and Holt came out of his residence with a large kitchen knife.

“I’m going to stab you in the back,” he allegedly yelled.

“I will kill you, you f---ing bastard.”

Other neighbours rushed outside after hearing the commotion.

“If I had stood still he would’ve got me,” said the neighbour.

Holt told the court he ran out with the knife because he was “keeping an eye on [his] property.”

Holt was arrested at the scene and was co-operative with police.

Another neighbour caught a series of bizarre incidents on her CCTV camera in May of last year.

On several occasions she allegedly caught Holt loitering in the doorway of her home.

In once instance she told police he was standing on her doorstep completely naked looking for cigarettes at 9.15pm.

Holt appeared before the court requesting an indication for a possible sentence if he was to plead guilty to these alleged crimes.

He also wanted to apply for bail but had not supplied the court with the correct paperwork.

Holt told the magistrate he wanted to be bailed because he “needed a cigarette”.

Magistrate Simon Gutherie agreed to hear his bail application and indicated he would sentence Holt to six months in custody, noting he had already served four-and-a-half months pre sentence detention.

Holt rejected this sentence indication.

“This is a joke,” he said to Mr Gutherie.

“I don’t deserve this.

“I don’t give a f---, I just want to get out.”

Holt threw the chair he was sitting on and left the court hearing before starting his bail application.

He will reappear before the Geelong Magistrates Court in April for a contest mention.
