Lifeguards spotted two 2.5m sharks in waters at Surf Coast beaches just before midday.
Life Saving Victoria general manager lifesaving services Liam Krigs said The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter had spotted a 2.5-metre shark at Fairhaven and another at Moggs Creek on Thursday.
“Lifeguards on jet skis are on scene monitoring the sharks, and we are asking swimmers and surfers to leave and avoid the area until further notice,” he said.
Mr Krige said sharks are a normal part of the marine environment and sightings are not uncommon.
"Our advice is to be alert, not alarmed about sharks and to keep informed of the latest confirmed shark sightings by checking the Vic Emergency app for alerts before heading to the beach.
“If you do spot a shark while swimming or recreating, leave the water immediately and report it by phoning triple-0. If you are at a patrolled beach, notify the lifesavers.”
