Seasonal dog regulations have come back into effect for the summer months, with local councils urging locals to be wary of the changes.

New dog rules have also come into effect at Ocean Grove’s main beach for the first time this season after a two-year community consultation period.

A new dog free area spans about 805m between 13W Hodgson St beach access stairs and the western end of Main Beach promenade.

Seasonal regulations came into effect on December 1 until the last day of February, as well as during the Easter long weekend.

Animal management officers will be monitoring beaches to ensure dog owners are adhering to the new regulations.

City of Greater Geelong Bellarine councillor Jim Mason said it was important dog owners took time to understand the rule changes.

“There will be officers present to support monitoring and enforcement of ongoing orders in all coastal areas across the municipality,” he said.

“Council has sought to strike a balance to ensure that everyone has a positive time while enjoying the beautiful part of the world in which we live in.”

Regulations have also come back into effect in Torquay at Fishermans Beach, along parts of Jan Juc beach and on Anglesea’s main beach, restricting dogs from being on the sand between 9am and 7pm until the end of summer.

Timeshare are also in places at Western Beach, Rippleside Park and St Helens.
