A Searoad Ferries crew member has been flown to hospital after falling down stairs on a vessel.

The man, believed to be aged in his 50s, was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Friday night.

Paramedics responded to an incident at Queenscliff about 8.45pm, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said.

On Saturday morning the hospital said the man was in a serious condition.

A Country Fire Authority spokesman said emergency services were called to the ferry terminal after a man fell down stairs.

A Searoad Ferries spokeswoman said a staff member experienced a medical emergency onboard at the end of their shift, ourside ferry operational hours, on Friday night.

“A large scale medical evacuation was conducted to get the staff member off the vessel as his condition did not enable him to be carried down stairs,” she said.

“This involved multiple units from Fire Rescue Victoria, CFA, SES and police.

“We would like to thank all emergency services for their efforts and to all the Searoad Ferries staff members who were on hand to assist.”

She said the man was in a stable condition.

“Our thoughts are with his family and we wish him a speedy recovery,” she said.

A WorkSafe spokeswoman said the watchdog was looking in to the incident.

“WorkSafe inspectors are making inquiries and will determine if further action is required,” the spokeswoman said.
