Geelong’s Sacred Heart College has been rocked by an incident that has led to the departure of a senior staff member.

A person connected to the Catholic all-girls school said the situation, which they said occurred during school holidays, was inappropriate.

They said two staff members were caught being intimate on the Newtown school grounds.

“It’s not great,” they said.

“I know it’s school holidays, but it’s still a place that students can go to.

“Students have access to the school during the holidays, if they need it.

“I just think there’s a time and a place.”

It’s understood the names of the staff involved were communicated to all staff members and that the school has recently updated email security.

Sacred Heart College would not reveal the details of the incident, but confirmed the matter did not involve students.

“In accordance with college policies, one senior staff member has left the college, and one is currently on leave,” principal Anna Negro said in statement.

It’s understood the staff members are not teachers.

The school would not reveal when the staff member went on leave, why they had gone on leave or when they would return.

It’s also not known when the other staff member left the school.

A letter was sent to families on Tuesday evening.

It is not the first time the Newtown school has been swept up in controversy.

In a separate incident in February, police were called to the school after a student was brutally attacked on the first day of the 2023 school year. The incident was captured on video and circulated on social media.

At the time, Ms Negro said she was grateful for the “quick response”, and for the “care and concern” shown by staff and by attending police officers.
