A Portarlington couple shows no signs of slowing down as they celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary next week.
Gerald and Marguerite Edgar will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on December 4.
The pair met at a church youth club in Liverpool, England during World War II.
“I remember seeing him when I was about 13 and I thought he looked all right,” Ms Edgar said.
She said the pair’s wedding was “very low-key”.
“It was just after the war so it was a quiet wedding but it was lovely,” Mrs Edgar said.
The couple had four children before moving to Melbourne during the 1960s, retiring in 1989 and moving to Clifton Springs.
They now live in an aged care facility in Portarlington where they continue to live an active lifestyle together.
Mr Edgar, 95, plays croquet weekly and Mrs Edgar, 94, attends a book club and a local probus club, a group for retirees to make friends and explore new interests and hobbies.
“We get out quite a bit to see our friends,” Mrs Edgar said.
The couple has five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
They plan to celebrate their milestone anniversary with a “low-key” lunch with family.
When asked about their secret to a long and happy marriage, Mrs Edgar said it was important to “just keep going.”
