A driver has been killed following a single-car collision at Forrest on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to reports a car had crashed into a tree off Grant Street about 8.45pm.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and police are investigating.

The Forrest crash marks 72 lives lost on Victorian roads this year, on par with the same time last year, according to Victoria Police’s provisional tally.

It comes after six-year-old Caleb Wesley was killed in an alleged-hit run while walking to the bus stop with his siblings in Teesdale on Thursday morning.

In January, Corio dad Mark Robertson died after crashing into a tree on Steiglitz-She Oaks Rd on January 4.

Weeks earlier on December 20, a 62-year-old Docklands man was killed in a collision at the intersection of Cape Otway Rd and the Princes Highway in Mount Moriac.

Anyone who witnessed the Forrest crash or with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

More to come.
