A young woman was flown to hospital with critical injuries after a crash in Lara on Friday night – the latest in a spate of horror accidents on local roads.

Police are investigating the Princes Highway smash after officers were called to reports a vehicle had crashed into a side barrier about 8.55pm.

“The driver, a 22-year-old North Geelong woman, and one passenger, a 22-year-old Corio woman, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

“Another passenger was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries.”

Ambulance Victoria confirmed all three patients were taken to The Alfred hospital.

The critically injured passenger was reportedly a 20-year-old North Geelong woman.

Her condition had improved to serious but stable on Saturday, The Alfred said.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information or CCTV is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppers.com.au.

The crash comes a little more than a week after a man was killed after his car slammed into a pole and burst into flames in Geelong.

Emergency services rushed to the scene just after 9am on Friday, August 9, near the corner of Portarlington Rd and Wilsons Rd in Newcomb, following reports a car was on fire.

The driver and sole occupant, a 29-year-old Point Lonsdale man, died at the scene.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed he had been in recent contact with authorities before the tragedy.

It is understood his white Holden Commodore lost control and slammed into a pole between Wilsons Rd and Neptune Ave.

On August 1, a teenage boy was critically injured when an allegedly stolen car rolled in Lovely Banks.

Police said the driver of a grey Toyota Hilux, a 17-year-old boy, lost control and rolled the vehicle on Elcho Rd about 4pm.

The Hilux was allegedly stolen from a Lovely Banks address in late July, police said.

The driver was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries in a critical condition.

A 15-year-old boy suffered upper and lower body injuries and was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition. A 20-year-old Corio woman was also taken to hospital.

In July, two men died in a head-on collision in Moriac and another man died when his car hit a tree at Bannockburn.

There have also been multiple hit-run incidents in Geelong in recent months, including in Marshall and Corio.
