Man in his 30s discharged from hospital following a medical episode at Geelong cricket match

Barwon Health has provided an update on a man in his 30s who was taken to hospital following a medical episode at a cricket match where police were called. See the video.

UPDATE

An incident at the conclusion of a GCA3 third grade match which prompted police and an ambulance to attend is still being investigated by the local cricket association.

Police attended the scene at Harold Hurst Reserve about 6.20pm on Saturday evening following “reports of a brawl” between home team Manifold Heights and St Albans Breakwater players.

Meanwhile, a man in his 30s, who was admitted to hospital following a medical episode at the ground, was discharged later that day.

The Geelong Advertiser understands the fracas started after St Albans passed Manifold’s score of 9-172.

The match was part of a wider initiative from Manifold Heights to promote mental health awareness and education.

However, a police spokesperson said nobody was charged and no fines were issued.

A passerby captured on video several players coming together in the middle of the ground with some being held back by teammates.

GCA president Rob Vines said on Wednesday the association’s probe into the incident was “still progressing”.

The Geelong Cricket Association is investigating an incident at the conclusion of a GCA3 third division game on Saturday where police and an ambulance were called.

A police spokesperson confirmed officers attended the ground at Douglass St in Herne Hill about 6.20pm following “reports of a brawl” at a Manifold Heights v St Albans Breakwater fixture.

A video from a passer by reveals both teams coming together in the middle of the ground with several players being held back during the fracas.

The Geelong Advertiser understands the incident occurred after St Albans Breakwater had passed Manifold Heights’ total of 9-172.

The match was part of Manifold Heights’ initiative to promote mental health awareness through the grades.

However, a man at the ground aged in his 30s suffered a medical episode and was taken in a stable condition to Geelong Hospital.

A police spokesperson said it was not investigating the matter further.

“Officers attended, there were no injuries and no offence was detected,” the spokesperson said.

Geelong Cricket Association president Rob Vines said the matter would be investigated.

“We will undertake our normal investigation into a matter like this,” Vines said.

St Albans Breakwater and Manifold Heights cricket clubs declined to comment on the matter.
