One World Children’s Centre deemed Small Employer of the Year at Vic Training Awards

The centre’s general manager said she was “thrilled” to receive the honour.

A childcare centre in the city’s north has taken out a prestigious award.

One World Children’s Centre, on Thompson Rd in Bell Park, was deemed Small Employer of the Year at the Victorian Training Awards gala on Friday.

General manager Carol Pundij said it was a “massive thrill” to be recognised.

“It’s exciting,” Ms Pundij said.

“As a service, there’s a lot we do that is unique, and we do it well, and have for a long time.

“Recognition in our sector can be hard to achieve, but we work hard and for us, it’s always about quality outcomes, and we push hard against the odds.”

Ms Pundij said the business operates not only as a childcare, but as a training centre for people who want to work in the field.

“What we do is worth celebrating,” he said.

“Around about 30 per cent of our staff are undertaking some sort level of training.

“For us, it’s all about the families, but to have the educators that have the skills and knowledge to work with children in important.”

One World Children’s Centre provides care and education for children from birth to the age of 12.

Ms Pundij said despite the family business operating for over 27 years, this was the first award they had been nominated for.

The win means the centre will automatically be Victoria’s nomination for the same category at the Australian Training Awards later in the year.
