Norlane property damaged after house fire, occupants escape

A suburban home sustained extensive damage in a blaze on Wednesday afternoon, with the occupants escaping unharmed.

A suburban home sustained extensive damage in a blaze in Norlane on Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were called to Thrush St just before 4pm and found the house fully alight.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokeswoman said no one was injured in the blaze.

“(Firefighters) arrived on scene at 3.52pm and the situation was under control at 4.04pm,” the spokeswoman said.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a 30-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child escaped the blaze unharmed.

“The fire is not being treated as suspicious,” the spokeswoman said.

Residents of surrounding streets reported on social media that they could see smoke.

In photos from the scene, what appears to be insulation can be seen laying outside the house.

The roof appeared to be severely damaged, with charred belongings seen in a hallway.

It comes just days after a house fire in a nearby street.

Police are investigating a unit fire on Plume St on Sunday morning, which is located less than five minutes’ drive from Thrush St.

The exact circumstances of the Sunday morning blaze remain unclear, police said.
