One of Geelong’s major growth areas is poised to host a new development that’s set to feature more than 100 new homes and a potential childcare centre.

Mount Duneed is poised to continue its residential expansion, with developers pushing ahead with plans to slice up a block of Surf Coast Hwy land for almost 130 new homes, medium density developments and a church or childcare centre.

A planning application lodged with the City of Greater Geelong by Geelong Forum Investments seeks approval for a “staged multi-lot subdivision” on the 72,229sq m area of land on the corner of the Surf Coast Hwy and Baanip Blvd.

The subdivision plans aim to create 124 residential lots – ranging from 350sq m to 549sq m – along with a pair of medium density lots, a larger “community/childcare” site and a drainage basin.

“The range in lot sizes allows for a range of housing density and diversity,” planning documents noted.

“There will also be two medium density lots of 3,085sq m and 2,055sq m. The medium density lots are not proposing subdivision at this stage via the Small Housing Lot Code and will leave these lots open for development and custom design once the subdivision has been approved.

“A community/childcare site of 4,237m2 is to be located fronting the Torquay Road Service Lane. The intent is for this to be developed as a future church site or if this does not eventuate then a childcare centre will be developed.”

The planning application will remain open for community comment until December 10.
