A club-first Newtown & Chilwell netball player has followed her mother’s advice to work hard and think of others to the letter, with both named life members.

Diamonds dazzle to defeat South Africa by 19 points

Mother and daughter duo Tracie and Cassidy Moore have been recognised for their loyal service and team-first attitude down at Newtown & Chilwell Football Netball Club, both on and off the court.

Cassidy, 27, who already holds the record for the most senior games with 224 for the Towners, was the first to receive the honour from the club the day before AFL grand final day at a special function — acknowledged for playing, coaching and helping organise events, with a strong background in hospitality.

“She coached three premiership sides this year alone,” Tracie said.

“Two under-17s and an under-19s premiership.

“She’s a really good mentor for young people about culture, and so therefore very mindful of how our members are perceived when they’re out at functions.

“She was raised to work hard and give back.”

Cassidy was reportedly a touch embarrassed about winning life membership before her mother.

However, she was relieved to her Tracie’s name read out moments later to receive the same honour.

Cassidy also won the league best and fairest in D Grade last year, and was runner up in C Grade in 2023.

Meanwhile, mother of three and schoolteacher Tracie, who first arrived at the club in the 1990s, has become something of a wizard away from the court, whether it be canteen duties, team management and on the club committee.

“If I’m there watching I may as well do something,” she said of her mindset when she arrived at the Towners.

“Just doing my bit.

“I didn’t expect (the award) at all. It’s great to know somebody else in the family has got the same beliefs as you.

“That if you’re there, and you’ve got the ability and you’ve got something to offer, that you step up and do it.

“It’s great to know I’ve raised someone who does that.”
