Medical centre proposed for Belmont

A house opposite a busy shopping precinct is set to make way for a new medical centre, open seven days a week, under plans lodged with Geelong council.

A Belmont house would be bulldozed to make way for an $800,000 medical centre, if plans lodged with the City of Greater Geelong are approved.

A planning application lodged with council revealed plans to demolish a home at 50 Thomson St and replace it with a two-storey building.

The site is located opposite a shopping precinct.

The building would include a number of general and specialist medical rooms.

The proposed hours of operation would be between 7am and 9pm, seven days a week.

“The layout encompasses a number of rooms associated with a medical centre including an ancillary dispensary, medical suites, specialist rooms, conference room and staff and patient amenity areas,” the planning report said.

Twenty carparking spaces would be provided on site.

Planning documents noted current owners of the land were medical practitioners and wanted to set up a clinic in the location.

“A roster system will be utilised to ensure there is not more than six medical practitioners on site at any one time,” documents said.

The development was estimated to cost $800,000.

Public comment on the planning application will remain open until September 23.
