The Liberal Party’s Corio candidate for the upcoming federal election is a board member at a church whose leader believes prayer can bring children back from the dead.
The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission website shows Darren Buller sits on the board for Tim Hall International Ministries, an evangelical group that believes in the healing power of prayer.
The church’s figurehead, Tim Hall, has an active YouTube page on which he shares stories of how he says faith has healed people.
In one of those videos, he tells a story of a time he was running a service in the town of Kurri Kurri near Newcastle in New South Wales.
According to Mr Hall, during the service a woman handed him a recently deceased child, who came back to life in his arms.
“I’m standing at the front and I’ve got this little boy in my arms and I realised I’m holding a dead child,” Mr Hall said.
“I said ‘There’s no life in this child, let’s start to shout,’ and I didn’t really care what they shouted as long as it was anointed.
“I’m holding this child – all of a sudden, I felt the power of God and I felt the child start to move.
“That little child came back to life.”
In another video, Mr Hall tells a story of when a friend of his resurrected a child in Papua New Guinea.
“We’ve had a couple of people raised from the dead in our meetings, and that’s always very exciting when you see someone that’s been dead come back to life,” he said.
“A lady, her little child had died in the hospital, and she had basically got the death certificate and then came to the meeting carrying a dead child.
“Anyway, lady came down and shoved this little dead baby into Craig’s arms … he gets a dead baby put in his arms and our team gathered around this baby, had been dead, I would imagine, at least an hour and a half.
“They gathered around, took authority, the baby started crying and they handed this little child alive and well back into the mother’s arms.”
Other stories told by Mr Hall on his YouTube include curing cancers, mental illness and autism through prayer.
The ministry offers a $70 online course taught by Mr Hall titles the School Of Power Evangelism.
When asked whether he believed Mr Hall’s wild claims, Mr Buller refused to answer.
“I have been a board member at Tim Hall International Ministries for approximately four years,” Mr Buller said.
“My role as board member is to provide oversight and governance advice to Tim Hall International Ministries.
“Questions regarding Pastor Hall’s beliefs should be put to Pastor Hall.”
Mr Buller ran as an Upper House candidate for the religious Family First party in the 2022 Victorian election.
