Calum von Moger’s rise to prominence has seen him display strict dedication. But the alarming behaviour that has landed him in the headlines in recent weeks is a far cry from the healthy habits and discipline he spruiked in the past.

Geelong bodybuilder Calum von Moger’s rise to prominence has seen him display strict dedication.

But the alarming behaviour that has landed him in the headlines in recent weeks is a far cry from the healthy habits and discipline he spruiked in the past.

Back in 2011, the then Anglesea 21-year-old took out the World Fitness Federation International Superbody gong.

He was so dedicated to his strict diet prior to the tournament that he did not eat any plane food rather opting to eat chicken breast he prepacked, andbought a George Foreman grill in Austria so he could prepare more chicken before the big competition.

Von Moger had been training for the previous six years.

The muscle man eventually moved to Los Angeles in 2014, and landed a lead role playing Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2018 film Bigger.

But von Moger has suffered setbacks impacting his bodybuilding, including tearing a bicep while doing a heavy curl, and another injury sustained abseiling down a cliff.

He moved back to Australia last year.

In a Facebook post made from hotel quarantine, he said he had a tough year, which included the death of his dog Rex.

In January, von Moger was pulled over in Melbourne while driving without registration plates.

Police found bags of white crystal powder, vials of testosterone and other pharmaceutical drugs.

This week, the former Oberon High School student avoided conviction after pleading guilty to possessing drugs including methamphetamine and cannabis.

Von Moger was ordered to pay $500 to a court fund and will take part in a rehabilitation program.

His lawyer said von Moger spiralled out of control after he had taken testosterone for a number of years, and other substances came into the picture.

He will reappear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in August to contest an affray charge relating to an incident in Melbourne earlier this year.

His court appearance this week came after he earlier this moth he was involved in a near-fatal fall from a second storey window in Mount Duneed.

Von Moger, who suffered spinal injuries and was placed in an induced coma, has since been spotted back on his feet.

Whatever comes next in the tumultuous tale of the former Mr Universe, who has amassed more than 3.3 million Instagram followers, is sure to continue attracting global attention.
