Golden Days Tanning is Geelong’s first 24 hour tanning salon and offers contactless, automated self tans in private booths that use voice commands.
Owner Alli Carland opened the salon in November last year after seeing a gap in the beauty market in Geelong.
“We don’t have anything like this,” Ms Carland said.
Customers book an appointment time for their tan and are given a code which gives them access to the salon and the booths. There are three tans on offer, each in three shades.
Customers enter the number of their desired tan shade and hit the start button which turns the machine on.
Voice commands guide the user during the process, telling them when to turn around to ensure an even application.
The machine sprays tan on the way down and dispenses warm air on the way to allow the tan to dry.
When the spray tan is complete, the machine begins an automated cleaning cycle.
Customers can choose between a two different memberships or casual tan packs.
Ms Carland said she was “initially sceptical” of the automated booths, but her opinion changed when she tested it out at a Melbourne wholesaler.
“The technology on these booths is amazing, I was seriously blown away,” she said.
Ms Carland said the response from customers had been “amazing” so far.
“People can be self-conscious when getting a spray tan so this is a space for everyone,” she said.
Ms Carland said nurses and shift workers are the salon’s main clientele as they can book at a time that suits them.
