GEELONG’S much-loved water front ferris wheel has applied to operate for another three years.
In a planning application lodged with the City of Greater Geelong operators of the popular attraction Hi Lite Amusements set out their plans to continue running the Giant Sky Wheel until 2025.
“The Giant Sky Wheel has been operating on the Geelong water front for 12 seasons now and has been a valued tourist attraction,” planning documents noted.
“It assists in creating a fun and lively focus for the water front.
“Throughout our time on the foreshore we have had around sixty to eighty thousand people enjoying the experience of the Giant Wheel each season – weather depending. It commands a beautiful visual presence that orientates people to the waterfront area.
“It’s clearly been enjoyed by many people and is a positive attraction to the area.”
A supporting letter to the city also revealed the popular ride had been asked to up and running for Geelong’s White Night 2022 event in October this year.
“In the time the Giant Wheel has been operating, it has become an integral and acknowledged part of the Geelong waterfront from November until April,” they noted.
The planning application will remain open for public comment until September 10.
