Geelong teens to contest new season of Australian Ninja Warrior

Three Geelong teenagers will compete for the coveted title of Australian Ninja Warrior when the series kicks off this week.

Three Geelong teenagers will compete for the coveted title of Australian Ninja Warrior.

Chanel Simsic, 16, Kai James, 17, and Lochie Lydom, 17, have been named contestants in the 2022 edition of the popular Channel 9 series.

The trio will compete against other entrants and complete the toughest course seen on the show.

The series, which will premiere on Monday, will be presented by four-time tennis grand slam champion Jim Courier, presenter Leila McKinnon and KIIS radio hosts Will and Woody.

Lochie, who is studying year 12, said he was inspired to compete in the show by his father Jase Lydom who was in season one and two of Australian Ninja Warrior.

The gym lover is known as the Dreadlochie Ninja, trains in his family’s Ninja Gyms in Geelong.

Lochie said he has “a love of Ninja competitions” and placed in the top three in competitions around Australia in 2018 and 2019.

Kai, who is nicknamed Turtle after his two pets, said he lived by the motto “life is too short to go slow” and used the phrase to motivate him during competition.

Before getting into Ninja Kai couldn’t do a single push up, but the high school student said he has improved so much he now competes internationally and can do 35 consecutive push-ups.

Chanel said she hoped to be an inspiration to other young girls who enjoy watching the show.

She said she represented the state in swimming and gymnastics and now teaches children.

Chanel will compete alongside her cousin and best friend Leonie Klemen, who will be cheering on from the sidelines.

The competitor who goes furthest on the grand final course in the fastest time will be declared the season six winner and take home $100,000.

Ninja Warrior airs at 7.30pm Monday.
