Geelong Greek restaurant Mavs named Victoria’s best Greek restaurant

For the third year in a row, a well-known Greek restaurant has been awarded a statewide honour.

It was back to back to back success for a Geelong eatery at the Restaurant and Catering Association Awards for Excellence when it took home the title of best Greek restaurant in Victoria.

Mavs Greek Restaurant owners Milton Mavromoustakos and Julia Ryabova were in disbelief they had won the award for a third consecutive year.

“We can’t believe it but it shows hard work pays off,” Mr Mavromoustakos said.

“What we are happy with is it is a very professional award chosen from professional judges and mystery diners.”

Mr Mavromoustakos said he was proud of the Little Malop St restaurant’s customer service and how the food was created with the best quality produce on the market.

“Julie and I as owners are always at the restaurant to make sure everything is at its best,” he said.

Ms Ryabova said the restaurant also focused on Greek traditions and hospitality.

“When people come here we treat them as if they are from home,” she said.

The pair have plans to change their menu and “improving” with some extra traditional dishes to be added.

“I’d like to do tapas type dishes so people can order multiple tapas, known as ‘meze’ in Greek, instead of a main meal,” Mr Mavromoustakos

The winner of the national title will be announced at a presentation in Melbourne on November 11.

“Last year we brought two bronze national awards back to Geelong and we are hoping to get gold this time but we will see what happens,” Ms Ryabova said.
