The nominations are in, and now it's time to vote for the Geelong Advertiser's best of formal Guide.

High schools across Geelong and the Surf Coast are getting ready for their night of nights – year 12 formals – and the Addy is putting together the ultimate formals guide.

We asked readers to nominate their recommendations for the best hair stylists, make up artists, spray tanners, nail technicians and lash and brow technicians, to make it easier for students wanting to glam up for their big night.

Now, the time to vote has come!

Voting will be open until 11.59pm November 19, with the winners announced the week of November 20.

Hair stylist

More than 20 hair stylists across Geelong and the Surf Coast were nominated when readers were asked for recommendations.

A reader who nominated Tania Greaves from Head First Hair Design said “you always

leave feeling a million dollars”

“(She) is always up with the latest trends, and is so honest with styles that suit face frame,” they said.

“She is the best.”

Make up artist

There are so many make up artists for Geelong’s year 12s to choose from, with more than 30 nominated for our guide.

Make-up artist Lis Jaima, who operates her business Makeupartlis in St Albans Park, is one of the nominees.

“I love to make people feel beautiful,” she said.

“I just want to make them feel confident and that they look pretty.”

Ms Jaima said being a make-up artist was her dream job after she started helping with beauty looks while in high school in Thailand.

“I moved to Australia at 18 and made my dream happen,” she said.

Ms Jaima said she focused on special-occasion looks, and was still taking bookings for the year 12 formal season.

Spray tanner

Year 12s wanting to glow for their special night have no shortage of options, with more than a dozen experts nominated.

North Geelong salon The Sorority, led by Laura Medved, was a popular choice from locals.

“All of the girls are so amazing and the attention to detail is next level,” one reader said.

“From the pre tan instructions to the experience when getting the tan, the best in Geelong!”

Nail technician

As the saying goes: “Great nails don’t happen by chance. They happen by appointment.”

Many talented nail technicians were put forward in the nominations for our guide.

One reader described nominee Caroline Makin, who runs I know a chick, as doing the “best nail ever”.

“Excellent customer service and just genuine good business.”

Lash and brow technician

Geelong and the Surf Coast have brow queens and lash experts galore, with our students spoiled for choice.

Christina at Eyedo Beauty was a popular nominee, with one reader simply describing her as “the best”.

We have relaunched the Best of Geelong series to help our readers discover the incredible businesses and individuals in our community. The way it works is in three stages:

1. We put out an initial call for nominations over a two-day period. This happens on our various social media accounts as well as on our website.

2. After nominations close we open the voting stage on our website. The businesses or individuals that received the highest number of nominations will progress to the voting stage. The voting stage runs for one week.

3. Once voting has closed a winner will be announced on our website usually a few days after the voting stage concludes. At the same time we will also announce up to nine other businesses with the highest amount of votes in the poll.
