Former employee charged over alleged corruption probe inside TAC
A former TAC employee has been charged after revelations of a secretive corruption probe into the government agency.
A former TAC employee has been charged by an integrity watchdog after revelations of a secret corruption probe into the government agency.
The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) will allege one person breached a gag order relating to ongoing investigation “Operation Carina” into corrupt conduct at the Geelong-based organisation.
They have been charged with one count of a confidentiality notice breach and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on December 3.
IBAC has powers to issue confidentiality notices under Section 42 of the IBAC Act, if it is considered that the disclosure of certain restricted information could prejudice an investigation or the fair trial, safety or reputation of a person.
The conduct under investigation is alleged to have occurred at the TAC during 2022 and 2023, a time in which the organisation was led by Joe Calafiore and Tracey Slatter.
There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Mr Calafiore or Ms Slatter.
Mr Calafiore, who headed TAC from 2015 to when Ms Slatter succeeded him in July 2023, was appointed as ongoing WorkSafe chief executive in April 2024 after acting in the role for six months prior.
He abruptly left the post in February this year, saying at the time he was “unable to commit the full focus that the role requires”.
Mr Calafiore stepped down from his role as chair of the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust around the same time, after almost seven years as a trust member.
The KPST manages the Kardinia Park precinct on behalf of the state government.
