Detectives have searched multiple homes and arrested five people in the city’s north this week following a spate of thefts across the region.

Police searched a property in Norlane on Monday after 15 cars were allegedly broken into across Torquay, Anglesea and Ocean Grove, between October 19 and 27.

A 22-year-old Norlane woman was arrested and charged with 22 counts of theft from a motor vehicle and two counts of obtaining property by deception as well as criminal damage offences.

She was bailed to appear at the Geelong Magistrates Court at a later date.

In a separate incident, two cars were allegedly stolen in an aggravated burglary in Newtown on Wednesday.

The police chopper was called in and four allegedly stolen vehicles were recovered at a home in Corio.

A 20-year-old Corio man was charged with 19 offences including aggravated burglary and driving while disqualified.

A 29-year-old Corio man was charged with nine offences including aggravated burglary and theft from a motor vehicle.

Both were remanded in custody to face Geelong Magistrates Court later this month.

A third alleged offender, 28-year-old Norlane woman, was charged with 10 offences including aggravated burglary, theft from a motor vehicle and possessing a drug of dependence.

She was bailed to front court at a later date.

In a third incident, detectives searched a home in Lara and found an allegedly stolen camper trailer and a black Ford ranger.

Police allege both were stolen earlier this year.

A 40-year-old Lara man was arrested and charged with theft from a motor vehicle.

He faced the Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Gavin Mullins said stolen vehicles often lead to further criminal activities.

“While police are doing everything possible, we are urging the community to ensure they are securing their property and vehicles at all times,” he said.

“Victoria Police maintains a zero-tolerance approach towards those who roam the streets, seeking opportunities to commit crime.”
