A Norlane man on trial for sexually assaulting a teenage girl has learned his fate after a jury returned its verdict on Tuesday.

David Brian Kilner, 57, was found guilty in the County Court on three charges of sexual assault of a child and one charge of sexual penetration.

The jury also found Kilner not guilty on three charges of sexual assault of a child and one charge of sexual penetration.

It can now be revealed that before the trial Kilner pleaded guilty to one charge of using a carriage service to harass or offend, relating to messages he sent to the victim.

During the course of the trial, crown prosecutor Danielle Guesdon told the court Kilner sent sexually suggestive messages to the female victim, which included photos of people in sex positions, and strange cartoon images.

Kilner called the victim “babe” and “darling” in text messages and also sent a message saying “I’m waiting for you, wish you were here”.

Ms Guesdon said the messages showed Kilner had a sexual interest in the girl.

When Kilner was interviewed by police in relation to the messages, he said he knew the messages were inappropriate and a “little bit sexual”.

Throughout the trial, the court heard Kilner indecently assaulted the victim by touching her genitals, squeezing her buttocks and repeatedly pressing himself against her.

Ms Guesdon said when Kilner touched the victim’s genitals, she frozw.

“She didn’t know what to do…she couldn’t stop or push him away,” Ms Guesdon said.

Kilner was remanded in custody and will appear in court for a plea hearing on February 1, next year.
