Geelong-based retailer Cotton On is due to take on more than 400 staff at its global distribution centre at Avalon in coming weeks.
As the company readies itself for the busy summer retail season, Cotton On also wants to add 3500 staff nationally.
A Cotton On spokesman said the Avalon distribution centre serviced more than 650 stores in Australia and was also a global distribution hub.
“Think of it as an research-and-development site where we trial the newest technology, test and implement sustainability solutions and go big on new ideas to then scale them across our global network,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman said jobs at the distribution centre were a good fit for students and included daily shifts from 7am to 3pm.
The expansion of Cotton On’s Avalon hub from 35,000 sqm to 50,000 sqm is due to be completed next year.
The spokesman said another 125 workers were needed in its 16 retail stores across Werribee, Geelong and the Surf Coast.
“New roles will also be added at the global support centre in North Geelong. The new teammates will be supporting creative departments during the peak period, filling positions such as social media co-ordinator, digital designer, print designer, content editor, digital producer and brand communications co-ordinator.”
The spokesman said Cotton On expected to see demand climb in the summer period across a number of its products.
“Our ready-to-wear fashion offering and core basics across all eight of our brands are sure to strike a chord with our customers this holiday season.
“With more people back on planes and travelling to holiday destinations than we’ve seen in recent years, our recycled swim offering has picked up quickly and we’ve bought deep into the category to keep filling suitcases with bikinis, board shorts and more.”
Cotton On has 1500 stores worldwide and nine distribution centres servicing 22 countries.
Cotton On is running an open day at its Avalon distribution centre on October 21 between 10am and 5pm to allow the community to find out about positions available.
