A MAN narrowly avoided being struck by a construction barrier when he walked past Moorabool St hoarding seconds before it collapsed on Wednesday morning.
The hoarding, outside a new Barwon Health mental health centre still under construction, came down about 11am, according to initial reports.
Video showed the man walking past the hoarding before it fell and struck multiple cars. He appeared to escape the incident unscathed.
The scene, just metres from the intersection of Ryrie St, was cordoned off as SES crews surveyed the damage and began preparations for a clean-up.
One lane of Moorabool St was closed, causing some delays for busy holiday shopping traffic.
Two cars were directly under the barrier and a third vehicle was struck on the bonnet.
Barwon Health spokeswoman Kate Bibby said the incident was under investigation.
“Barwon Health is aware of the incident on Moorabool Street related to building hoarding,” she said.
“We are grateful no one was injured and the builder and developer managing the site will
be managing any follow up.”
WorkSafe will investigate the circumstances around the incident.
