The principal of Christian College Geelong has announced his resignation from the position, after going on leave for a number of months.

In an email sent to the school community, and seen by the Geelong Advertiser, board chair Reverend Paul Stephens said Glen McKeeman had informed the board that he’d made the “difficult decision” to resign from his role after 32 years of “dedicated service”.

In July, it was revealed Mr McKeeman was on leave while his wife, Pam McKeeman, faced bullying claims at the school.

Ms McKeeman was the deputy head of the school’s Bellarine campus, and had made a WorkSafe claim against the school, but was also facing multiple claims against her from staff.

Ms McKeeman went on leave last December.

Ms McKeeman told News Corp in July that she had been the subject of bullying.

When approached for comment, the school did not comment on if Ms McKeeman had returned to the school following the allegations, or if Mr McKeeman’s resignation was connected to the allegations.

A school statement from chief executive Daryl Riddle said the board wished Mr McKeeman “all the very best” with his future endeavours in education.

“As his long and decorated formal relationship with the college concludes, Mr McKeeman’s broad contribution to the lives of our students, his colleagues and college families is celebrated,” it read.

“His warm and generous leadership will be missed.”

Rev Stephens said it was a bittersweet farewell but also a joyful celebration of Mr McKeeman’s “remarkable journey”.

He said Mr McKeeman left a legacy of “leadership, vision and passion”.

“Mr McKeeman’s commitment and unwavering dedication to the Christian College Geelong community, particularly in his role as the principal, has left an indelible mark on the college,” Rev Stephens said.

“Throughout his tenure, Mr McKeeman has tirelessly worked to foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.

“Mr McKeeman’s leadership in shaping our teaching and learning programs has been pivotal in elevating the educational experience for our students.

“His visionary approach has enriched our curriculum, ensuring that our students are well prepared for the challenges of the future.”

Mr McKeeman had been at the school since 1991, and is a board member of Independent Schools Victoria and Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia.

Rev Stephens said the board expressed deep gratitude to Mr McKeeman for his service, bidding farewell to a “friend and mentor to many on staff and in the wider community”.

He said the college would make a separate announcement about transitional arrangements.
