A woman whose car allegedly hit a patient waiting at the reception desk of a Geelong dental clinic remains in hospital almost a week after the crash.
Police are still investigating the collision that saw a man flown to Melbourne with serious injuries and “chaos” erupt at the busy intersection.
It will be alleged a Portarlington woman, 45, gave a positive preliminary breath test after her SUV smashed into the front of Bupa Dental.
It’s still unclear what blood alcohol reading she returned.
The white Toyota cannoned through a window and doorway, entered the building and hit a man standing inside, on the corner of High St and Roslyn Rd in Belmont.
The driver was arrested and taken to Geelong hospital where she was held under police guard until recent days.
She has been spoken to by police but no formal charges have been laid.
A 54-year-old Ocean Grove man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital by emergency helicopter in a serious but stable condition.
He has since been released.
It’s understood CCTV has been sought as part of the ongoing investigation.
A nearby fruit shop worker told the Geelong Advertiser on Thursday police officers had been busy interviewing people in an attempt to piece together what happened.
“It was pretty big,” he said.
“Our cameras didn’t capture it, but there was a lot of chaos.”
The Fruit Shack is located at the same intersection as the crash.
Sarina from Sarina’s Barber Shop, who was a former hairdresser on High St, said it was lucky no one was killed.
“It’s not something you expect,” she said.
Another neighbouring businesswoman, who did not want to be named, described the accident as “full on”.
“There were cops everywhere and choppers flying overhead,” she said.
A spokesman from Bupa said the Belmont facility would remain closed while repairs were carried out.
All patients have been diverted to its central Geelong practice.
It’s the second time in less than 18 months that a car has crashed into a High St building.
In February last year, a small hatchback came to a halt when it hit the Pharmacy 4 Less outlet on the corner of High and Regent streets.
In 2018, a driver was lucky to escape unscathed when their car ploughed into a garden bed directly in front of the Australia Post outlet that is diagonally opposite Bupa Dental.
