A Geelong man who allegedly broke into a woman’s home and bit her is also accused of a random attack on a stranger in Melbourne’s CBD, a court has heard.

Carl Sudmeyer, 33, who also goes by Karl, appeared in Geelong Magistrates Court via videolink on Thursday.

Mr Sudmeyer, who has been in custody for 100 days, is charged with seven offences, including common law assault, criminal damage, failing to answer bail, possessing anabolic steroids and unlawful assault.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Andrew Clapham told the court Sudmeyer appeared at a woman’s home on July 17 this year when he banged on her door and yelled for her to answer.

She did not, hoping he would believe she wasn’t home, Constable Clapham said.

The court was told those hopes were dashed when Mr Sudmeyer called the woman’s phone, and heard it ringing inside the house.

After allegedly getting in through an unlocked sliding door, the accused found the woman in her bedroom and grabbed her, the court heard.

The court was told the woman managed to escape Mr Sudmeyer’s grip and ran out of the house before Mr Sudmeyer “dragged her back in”.

Mr Sudmeyer allegedly pushed the woman onto a couch and bit her three times on the arm, leaving “teeth marks and significant redness”.

The court heard Mr Sudmeyer then grabbed a nearby smoke pipe and poured “bong water” over the woman’s head.

Mr Clapham told the court the accused kicked a window by the front door as he left the house.

The court heard Mr Sudmeyer was arrested later that night on Yarra Street at 1.30am.

Police allegedly found a deal bag and six tablets on him, which he told police were steroids.

Earlier in the year, on May 4, the court heard Mr Sudmeyer arrived at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne for a five-day stay, when he allegedly attacked a 21-year-old Queensland man on an escalator.

Mr Sudmeyer fled, Constable Clapham said, and was later arrested on Swanston St, heavily intoxicated.

Mr Sudmeyer’s lawyer, Theo Chrisant, had initially asked the court for a sentencing indication. However as he was still awaiting materials, magistrate Michelle Hodgson said it would be in appropriate for her to offer any indication.

“If you want an indication, you need to have all the materials that you want me to take into account at the time you make your submissions,” Ms Hodgson said.

Mr Sudmeyer will appear in court on November 6 for a contest mention.
