The father of a six-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a car on his way to school has delivered a powerful message to the woman accused of killing him.

Caleb Levi Wesley was farewelled in front of hundreds of mourners on Saturday at the Covenant College in Bell Post Hill.

It is the same school he was walking to catch a bus to along Bannockburn-Shelford Rd in Teesdale when he was fatally struck in an alleged hit-run.

An 84-year-old woman stopped at the scene but police allege she then got back into her vehicle and drove away.

The child’s small coffin was draped in flowers and balloons inside a packed school basketball stadium, where he was remembered as a kind, curious and gorgeous little boy.

His father, Surendra, gave a stirring plea to the woman alleged to have caused his death, asking her “to accept our heartfelt forgiveness.”

“Our hearts are broken and torn apart (but) we want you and your family to know that the Wesley family forgives you,” he said.

“We hold no grudge against you.

“We are not angry at you and we forgive you.”

The elderly woman was released by Victoria Police following the accident pending further inquires.

A beautiful rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ was sung by all in attendance, who heard stories about Caleb’s inquisitive and excitable nature and his family’s unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Mr Wesley is a pastor of the Leigh Parish Church in Inverleigh.

Born in Perth, Caleb moved to Teesdale in 2019 after he took up the position.

The boy’s mother, May, spoke of “snuggle bunny’s” love of reading books and playing soccer.

He was a much loved member of the Golden Plains soccer club.

Master of ceremony, Rob Duncanson, comforted mourners by saying Caleb was now “in a far, far better place” in the “Kingdom of Heaven”.

His coffin was taken away in a moving procession of nine hot rods from the Geelong Street Rodders, in a salute to his favourite Hot Wheels Monster Trucks.

Many parents and children could be seen in the shirts.

He is survived by his loving parents, his 12-year-old sister, Ella and nine-year-old brother, Elijah.

He had been walking alongside them when tragedy struck on March 27.
