A woman who crashed into a parked station wagon on Christmas Eve smelled of “intoxicating liquor” and refused to take part in an alcohol reading, the Geelong Magistrates Court heard.

Brooklyn Marchant, 23, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to giving police a false name, refusing to accompany police on a breath analysis, unlicensed driving, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to report to police.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable David Vanderpol said that on December 24 Marchant was driving in Gheringhap St and crashed into a parked station wagon about 7.40pm.

Mr Vanderpol said Marchant did not stop and drove away from the scene.

The court was told a witness who saw the incident, followed Marchant in her car and called triple-0.

Mr Vanderpol said police spotted Marchant driving on Barwon Rd and followed the car onto the jetty in Corio Bay before the vehicle came to a stop.

“Police approached the accused who was seated in the driver seat and smelled strongly of intoxicating liquor,” Mr Vanderpol said.

The court was told Marchant initially provided police with a false name, but then revealed her real name.

Police checks revealed she was unlicensed at the time and when she was questioned by police in regards to the crash, she remained mute.

“She was then taken back to the police station to undertake a breath test, and the accused refused. She was asked to hand over the keys to the vehicle and she refused,” Mr Vanderpol said.

The court was told Marchant was taken back to police cells for being drunk and she continued to refuse to answer any questions regarding the collision.

Marchant’s lawyer said her client recognised she had made the wrong decision.

Magistrate John Bentley fined Marchant $800 and disqualified her from driving for four years.
