It was a tight race, but after a Geelong Advertiser reader vote, the region’s best dance teacher of 2023 has been found.

Karen Feldman from KF Dance has been crowned the region’s top teacher of dance for the year.

She won 21 per cent of the vote, from the more than 280 votes submitted.

Ms Feldman said it was “lovely” to be recognised, but credited the achievement to the “amazing families” that support her and the crew at KF Dance.

“I really want to express my thanks to all of the families that went out of their way to vote,” she said.

“It’s such a privilege to be able to teach their children.

“We have 25 teachers (at KF Dance), honestly every single one of them should be recognised, my 21 per cent of the vote is full credit to those teachers as well.”

KF Dance dominated the list, with the five nominated teachers from the school sharing a collective 36 per cent of the vote, including Ms Feldman in first, and Miss Sam in third.

According to Ms Feldman, the success of KF Dance is down to the unique way in which they conduct themselves.

“I just think the KF dance community is just such a supportive community,” she said.

“We have so many dance families throughout the Geelong area, and we’re a different type of dance school, we really champion inclusion and sort of no fuss and fun and wholesome dance.

“At the end of the day I absolutely love what I do, and really love the kids that I teach.

“I think for any teacher, realising that you’re not the mosI t important person in the room is essential, and if you can provide as much joy and fun into their weekly schedule then it’s great.”

The runner up was Nikki Hyland from Geelong Dance Movement, while Miss Sam from KF Dance took third place.

The Geelong Advertiser’s Best Of series has returned - keep an eye out for the next subscriber nomination and vote.

We have relaunched the Best of Geelong series to help our readers discover the incredible businesses and individuals in our community. The way it works is in three stages:

1. We put out an initial call for nominations over a two-day period. This happens on our various social media accounts as well as on our website.

2. After nominations close we open the voting stage on our website. The businesses or individuals that received the highest number of nominations will progress to the voting stage. The voting stage runs for one week.

3. Once voting has closed a winner will be announced on our website usually a few days after the voting stage concludes. At the same time we will also announce up to nine other businesses with the highest amount of votes in the poll.

*The Geelong Advertiser reserves the right to disqualify any entries to the Best Of competition.
