A Geelong West house was gutted when fire tore through the weatherboard property on Friday morning.
Residents of Coquette St said they were forced to evacuate their homes when the property, believed to be vacant, caught fire midmorning.
A neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, described the blaze as “very scary.”
“I’ve never seen anyone living there,” he said.
A video of the fire showed flames and smoke billowing from the property.
A car, parked out of the front of the home, was also damaged.
A CFA spokeswoman said crews were called to the scene about 11.20am.
“The single storey weatherboard house was significantly impacted by fire, along with a car at the property,” the spokeswoman said.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses worked together to extinguish the blaze, which was deemed under control at 11:37am.
“Seven CFA vehicles and crews responded, along with FRV, Victorian Police and Ambulance Victoria.”
It is understood the property had been vacant for some time.
As many as 10 emergency service vehicles were on scene to tackle the blaze.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
