International Baccalaureate (IB) students from Geelong have celebrated receiving their final results.
Three weeks after VCE students received their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) scores, students from Kardinia International College and Geelong Grammar School learned their results on Tuesday.
Kardinia International College’s Jessica O’Halloran and Geelong Grammar School’s Zach Margis were the region’s top IB achievers. They both received scores of 43 out of 45, which is the equivalent of a 99.45 ATAR.
Kardinia graduate Lillian Henderson was also a high achiever - receiving an IB study score of 42, which equates to a 99.2 ATAR.
“It’s a mixture of excitement and relief ... these last two years have come down to one number,” she said of receiving her score.
Ms Henderson said her IB studies felt like a rollercoaster.
“There were a lot of high and lows,” she said.
This year, Ms Henderson hopes to study engineering and science at Monash University as she is interested in renewables and climate solutions.
Kardinia principal Catherine Lockhart said 32 students completed the IB diploma at the college in 2022, with Toby Newman (99.2), Oliver Armstrong (99.1) and Seiji Lorefice (99.1)
each receiving an ATAR above 99.
“53 per cent of our IB diploma students received an ATAR above 95, 72 per cent over 90 (and) 94 per cent ... received an ATAR above 80,” she said.
“The college achieved a median IB score of 37 converting to a nominal ATAR of 95.”
Geelong Grammar said 41 students completed the IB diploma in 2022 with 61 per cent achieving an ATAR above 90, including Zarli Dickinson who received an ATAR of 99.1.
