Geelong defenders Tom Stewart, Lawson Humphries and Jack Henry may not return against Port Adelaide

The Cats may again be without several of their key backs against Port Adelaide on Saturday while a youngster faces potentially weeks on the sidelines with an ongoing foot problem.

Geelong may still be without several of its sidelined defenders for the clash with Port Adelaide on Saturday.

Five-time all-Australian defender Tom Stewart is expected to return but is not a certainty due to knee soreness, while the club will continue to monitor Lawson Humphries after suffering concussion against Collingwood.

Meanwhile, Jack Henry, who strained a hamstring against Melbourne in Round 4, will be a test ahead of the Power clash.

Geelong’s executive general manager Andrew Mackie confirmed on Tuesday the club opted to give the 32-year-old Stewart another week off after hobbling during the match against Carlton.

“We decided to give Tom another week to recover, and we will continue to monitor him throughout the week before making a call,” Mackie said.

“Lawson is continuing to progress through the AFL concussion protocol, with the club to monitor him and his availability throughout the week.

“Jack made a successful return to training with the main group last week as he continues his rehabilitation program.

“We are hopeful to have him back this week, however, are mindful of the short turnaround into the Western Bulldogs game in Round 11.

“He will be a test this week, and similar to Tom we will make the call later in the week.”

Meanwhile, premiership defender Jake Kolodjashnij is listed as a one to three-week proposition with a groin injury, having missed Geelong’s VFL match with “low grade groin symptoms” and a back spasm.

“Our focus is that Jake is set up to have a consistent second half of the season, so we will continue to manage his training loads over the next one to three weeks, before he can make a return to play,” Mackie said.

Ruckman Rhys Stanley will also be a test following a hamstring strain against the Pies but is reportedly “progressing well”, according to the club.

“Like we do with most players, we will give him every opportunity to prove his fitness, however we also won’t hesitate to give him another week to recover,” Mackie said.

Youngster Mitch Knevitt remains a one to two-week proposition with his ongoing right planar fascia injury, with a goal of the 22-year-old returning to training this week.
