GEELONG City captain Jack Driver believes his side is destined for a dynasty in the GCA after an undefeated start to the season.

The ladder leaders have been a finals constant in the past few years after moving into GCA2, but a premiership still eludes the squad after a lost grand final in 2021 and a preliminary final defeat in 2022.

Driver said his expectations on the side had not changed, and the Sharks were ready to “reap the rewards” of a strong pre-season.

“At the start of the season we knew we had a pretty good team, we’ve done pretty well the last few years and our team hasn’t changed too much, so we know we’ve got good players and how to best use them,” he said.

“It’s just through more hard work and training standards improving that people are succeeding now, we’ve got three batters well over 100 runs through the first bit of the season, and our bowlers are doing their job every week and we’re not chasing too many big scores.

“Everyone knows what their role is and everyone really enjoys playing with each other, which really makes the fielding aspect of the game really enjoyable.

“We all like spending the 50 overs out there together, which makes that heaps easier. We’re young and athletic so everyone enjoys those hot days, so there’s no reason why we can’t seriously challenge this year.”

Geelong City has won all five games this season, with a washout against Murgheboluc the only blip before Christmas.

Driver said the depth of the side was greater this season than in years past.

“Everyone pitching in each week really lifts the pressure off guys, they know if they get a good one early and go out then there are guys following them that are just as capable of finding some runs,” he said.

“The middle order is more than capable of getting the job done, and it’s the same with the ball.

“We’ve got so many options that if someone’s off then it’s not the end of the world, we can throw it around and find a different bowler.”
