The Geelong Advertiser continues to strengthen its position as Victoria’s most-read regional newspaper, with the latest audience figures revealing sustained growth in print and digital.
New Roy Morgan data, released on Monday, shows the Addy’s total monthly print and online audience has climbed to 386,000 readers a month – a 5.5 per cent increase over the past three months, adding 20,000 readers to its reach.
The newspaper’s weekday average issue readership now sits at 32,000 – up 3000 readers in the last quarter – while Saturday’s edition has surged to 41,000 readers, marking an impressive 13.9 per cent growth.
The results show the Geelong Advertiser is experiencing strong and sustained growth for its cross-platform audience, making it the best regional performer in the News Corp staple.
Editor Nadja Fleet credited the newspaper’s loyal readership and dedicated newsroom for the ongoing success, highlighting the increasing engagement in local news.
“With a federal election on the horizon, an engaged community is more important than ever,” she said.
“The figures show that more people are turning to the Addy, and that means they make better-informed decisions when they are at the ballot boxes.”
Sister publications the Herald Sun and the Weekly Times, which distributes across regional Australia, now reach 4.233m and 677,000 readers respectively across their platforms.
The Geelong Advertiser has a long history of bringing news to the people, being the oldest newspaper in the state.
“For 184 years, we’ve worked tirelessly to keep our community informed, challenge those in power, and advocate for the issues that matter most,” Fleet said.
“That’s our role, and that’s what we’ll continue to do.”
