Stardust was sprinkled across the Townsville Table Tennis hall on Sunday as Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau took to the table.
Mr Coster-Waldau went down to club secretary Gary Mantell, but the actor got the best of Townsville men’s champion David Fielding; though Fielding did play with his bat in his opposite hand.
“It was a pretty cool day, being a Game of Thrones fan,” Mr Fielding said.
Mr Coster-Waldau played Jamie Lannister in the hit eight-season show, the final episode of which aired in May 2019.
The Danish actor and producer has been in Queensland filming an ‘eco series’ documentary titled An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet. A table tennis fan, his film crew were there as Mr Coster-Waldau had a hit, posed for photos and signed a few paddles.
Mr Fielding said the actor had been diving around Heron Island and was planning to head to Magnetic Island after that.
Mr Coster-Waldau was curious about conservation in North Queensland, asking about the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation), the Billabong Sancturay and industries in the area, Mr Fielding said.
But the big question; what was the actor’s table tennis game like?
“For how long he’s been playing and the opportunities he has to get on the table, ten-out-of-ten,” Mr Fielding said.
