Gabby Petito’s father has posted an image of his tragic daughter on social media – along with a plea to “do better.”
The New York Post reports that Joseph Petito shared the never-seen-before photo on Instagram and Twitter of Gabby from behind as she walks while holding hands with two young boys.
“We have to do better. Changes are coming. Now is the time. Don’t be silent,” the grieving dad captioned the image, which includes the hashtags #justiceforgabby, #domesticviolence and #domesticviolenceawareness.
His posts came two days after he broke a week of social media silence by sharing the website for the Gabby Petito Foundation, along with the comment, “She’s already saving lives,” referencing stories the family has received about people leaving abusive relationships and missing people being found.
Petito, 22, who went on a fateful cross-country road trip with her fiance, Brian Laundrie, 23, was reported missing on September 11 and later found dead in Wyoming.
Laundrie returned to Florida from the trek out west without her on September 1. He remains the sole person of interest in the case and went missing September 14, according to his parents, who only reported it to police three days later.
There is an active warrant for his arrest on fraud charges for allegedly using someone’s bank card around the time Petito disappeared.
