Free Korean Film Festival brings four films to Alice Springs

An Australia-wide film festival is headed to Alice Springs for the first time, and it’s bringing some highlights from the world of international cinema – for free. Find out more.

A free film festival is headed to the Red Centre capital for the first time, promising to showcase highlights from an Asian cinema powerhouse.

The Korean Film Festival in Australia will show four films at Alice Springs Cinema, with the first showing on Wednesday, October 9.

The free event runs until Saturday, October 12.

Festival programmer Francis Lee said the four films selected this year “promise to captivate viewers with its rich storytelling and exceptional cinematography”.

Opening the festival on Wednesday is FAQ – a film about a girl who learns the secrets of the world through a talking bottle of rice wine.

Thriller Don’t buy the Seller will screen on Thursday, which follows the story of a woman who becomes the target of a killer after a buying a faulty washing machine.

Dog Days will screen on Friday, which follows the intertwined lives of people and dogs.

Rounding out the festival is Picnic on Saturday, an indie-drama which tells the story of an elderly woman reconnecting with her friends and reminiscing on her life.

Festival marketing manager Joanne Tae said the event offered a “exciting cultural and cinematic experience”.

“It’s a chance to connect with Korean cinema and culture in a new way and enjoy international storytelling right here in town,” she said.
