A woman and man have caused social media outrage after refusing to move their feet off a seat on a NSW train, telling another commuter they were “too comfortable”.

Late on Tuesday night, a woman who is a frequent commuter of the Sydney to Newcastle service took to X - formally Twitter - to voice her concerns over what she called “feral behaviour”.

“These two refused to give up these seats on the Newcastle train. Said ‘no, we’re too comfortable,” the user posted along with a photo of a couple with their feet up taking up an extra two seats.

She clarified she was a “frequent user of these trains” and this photo was sent to her by her sister.

“There are approx. 30 stops between Central and Newcastle,” she said.

“A paying passenger has the right to get on and off at any stop. *If* seats are available, anyone has the right to sit in them, regardless of distance travelled.”

She continued in her thread to point out that no one was more entitled to a seat on a train, and her sister who was on the service was “shocked” by what had occurred.

More than 70,000 people had already seen the post 15 hours after it was posted, with a large portion of commenters seeming to side with the post.

“don’t even ask, just sit down,” one user wrote.

“I would just forcibly move the seat, but I’m a rather large bloke and can get away with that sort of stuff,” another commented.
