The Geelong Falcons have unveiled the squads for next month’s V-Line Cup in September, and there are plenty of familiar names.
The Barwon Cats will have 73 players converge on Ballarat for the carnival, showcasing the best under-15 talents from across regional Victoria from September 23-25.
The most recognisable of those names is Sam Knights, the son of former Richmond great and ex Essendon coach Matthew, who has been picked in the division two side.
Ted Buchanan, a relation of Sydney and Brisbane player Amon, Joseph Ivisic and the brother of 2024 draft prospect Xavier, Archie Blood (cousin of St Mary’s star and former Falcons captain Jack) and Banjo Savage (son of local netball star Mel) are also part of the division one squad.
Division two squad member Charley Bove is also brother of former Falcons captain and Werribee VFL player Gennaro Bove.
There are also familiar names from across the region in the coaching staff.
Outgoing Barwon Heads playing co-coach Mitch Herbison is head coach of the boys division one team, South Barwon player Will Sexton is coaching the division two boys, while former Falcons captain Lucy Were is head coach of ghr girls.
Former Essendon and Drysdale player Lachie Dalgleish, outgoing Lara co-coach Shayne Stone are among the division one boys coaching staff, Tom Worpel — the brother of Hawthorn midfielder James — is the assistant coach of the boys, while former Carlton AFLW player Poppy Schapp is part of the girls program.
