ESSENDON has put a season to forget behind them with a memorable Mad Monday at an Ascot Vale pub.
But there was one notable absentee, with Mad Monday expert Adam Cooney missing in action.
Teammate Mitch Brown filled in for the 250-game retiree, dressing up as the Brownlow Medallist circa 2003.
“Where are you Adam Cooney?” Brown asked on Instagram.
The spot-on costume prompted a response to Brown’s question from Cooney’s partner Haylea.
“Hmmmmmm @mitchbrown___ #bailer #dontblameme #badbloke.”

His teammates were quick to call Cooney out too, following his recent Herald Sun article on what goes on at footy team Mad Mondays.

Cooney’s absence didn’t stop the festivities getting into full swing early, as players showed up before the bar opened to scout each other’s outfits.

Darcy Parish stayed true to the church, donning a full nun’s costume, while Anthony Mcdonald-Tipungwuti dressed up as cricketer Chris Gayle.
Veteran James Kelly stole the show, living up to his nickname of ‘Pops’ in a full-old man get-up.
“We’re looking to have a few jars and get to know each other a little,” Kelly told Channel 7.
Addressing whether or not he would play on with the club next season, Kelly jokingly stated, “I’m not sure if I can make it through the day let alone next season, but we’ll see how we go.”
The club’s VFL teammates, who lost on the weekend to Footscray, joined the senior side in the celebrations.
