Disgraced cop begins appeal to dodge murder conviction

Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara were jailed for life for the murder of drug dealer Jamie Gao. As McNamara begins his appeal process, when will Roger “the Dodger” show his cards?

Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara sentenced to life in prison

THE first grounds of appeal have been lodged in the headline-grabbing murder case that saw disgraced cops Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara jailed for the rest of their lives.

Court records show McNamara has lodged his appeal arguments with the NSW Supreme Court in an attempt to overturn his jailing for the murder of drug dealer Jamie Gao. The hook is that McNamara’s arguments are being kept something of a secret.

That is until Rogerson files his long-awaited grounds of appeal.

It’s left us to ponder what possible argument McNamara could make to justify that his jailing was the wrong result?

We won’t know until Roger, infamously known as “the dodger”, shows his cards. So with that said, it’s over to you Roger.

THROW THE BOOK AT THEM …

Life can be tough when you’re a respected barrister at the apex of the legal profession — the younger types just take, take, take.

With that said, could whoever borrowed Winston Terracini SC’s copy of Forensic Pathology by Vincent DiMaio please see that it is returned immediately.

It seems the book was recently borrowed from the leading barrister’s impressive library at his offices on level 64 of the MLC Centre and not returned.

Terracini is well known for acting on the state’s highest-profile murder cases — think Gordon Wood, who was acquitted of killing girlfriend Caroline Byrne.

In that line of work, an authoritative book on determining causes of death is definitely going to be missed.

MANASE’S NEXT MOVE

Manly Sea Eagles star Manase Fainu will begin his second attempt at being released on bail tomorrow.

The Manly hooker’s lawyer Elias Tabchouri foreshadowed this week that the 22-year-old would head to the Supreme Court after his bail was refused at Liverpool Local Court last Monday.

That process will start tomorrow when Fainu is listed to appear in the NSW Supreme Court’s bail list.

Fainu is listed in the bail callover list, which means his matter may not be heard tomorrow because his legal team will be asked to update the court on the readiness of the bail application.

The highly touted rake (pictured above) has been stood down under the NRL’s no-fault policy after he was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, affray and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in company.

It stems from an incident at a church dance in Wattle Grove on October 25.

Police allege the NRL star used a 10cm knife in the attack that left a 24-year-old with a punctured lung.
