A newlywed Darwin couple snagged the ultimate prop for their wedding photos as the bride reeled in a shark while still in her wedding dress.
Miccala Toms and new husband Brodie were at Dundee Beach to have their wedding photos taken on Saturday, when inspiration struck.
“There was actually a baby shark sitting on the bank so we thought we’d take photos of that,” Mrs Toms said.
“Then a kid caught on to another one and I thought, ‘that would be great wedding photos’, because we love fishing.”
“We were standing there talking to his parents, and then he hooked up, and he gave the rod to me.”
The 25-year-old decided to reel in the shark herself, still in her white wedding dress, while friends and family looked on.
The shark put up a fight, with Mrs Toms taking a tumble at one stage, and having to have a rest after the shark had been pulled in.
With the help of her new husband, the shark was brought in to shore, and was featured in the wedding photoshoot, with Mr Toms holding the shark up to the camera by the tail.
The shark was then released back into the ocean.
Mrs Toms, a keen fisher, said the experience was a first.
“I’ve never caught one before,” she said.
