Time to dust off your pointed hats and sharpen your vampire teeth — the spooky season of 2025 is almost here.

Halloween is booming across Far North Queensland, with families gearing up to raid the best trick-or-treat streets from Cairns to Port Douglas.

In true tropical style, some locations will even be serving up icy poles to keep the ghouls, zombies and princesses cool. Spooky costumes and frontyard decorations are already popping up across the region.

The Halloween in Cairns, Atherton Tablelands & FNQ Facebook group now has about 6400 members, with hundreds joining this week.

Group administrator Bonnie Falkiner said they wanted to create a safe environment for kids as the traditionally American holiday gains traction in Australia.

“When I was a kid there were only a couple of little places you could go, and now as an adult there are hundreds of houses that get involved,” she said.

Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31.

Residents who want to join in can put up a decoration or switch on their porch light, those who don’t can simply leave the lights off.

“Halloween in Australia is more about the kids having fun, getting out and dressing up for the night, whereas a lot of other cultures celebrate it differently,” Ms Falkiner said.
